Design Giving is a print publication dedicated to supporting independent designers and makers. It celebrates well crafted products that inspire creativity, improve people’s lives and are kinder to the planet – the antithesis of throwaway.
Thoughtfully made in the UK using recycled, FSC and sustainable materials, Issue One is available in a limited edition of 500; perfectly bound with a hot stamped gold foil cover.
Five percent of all proceeds from our publication go to mental health charity, Manchester Mind enabling their services to continue improving the lives of 5000 young people and adults with mental health issues.
It features both established and emerging designers, makers and manufacturers from various creative disciplines; bringing you thoughtfully designed clothing, jewellery, books, stationery and home accessories.
We carefully selected 16 designers and makers who: share our passion for materials, invest time in slow decision-making, design high-quality products that are built to last, and use materials that are kinder to the planet. For balance, we have made a conscious decision that each designer featured works with a different material.
For the first issue of Design Giving magazine it was an honour to welcome our guest contributor Lance Wyman, a true design icon, who, for over five decades has helped redefine the field of environmental graphics. Throughout his career, Lance has always strived to emphasise the importance of concept and process; championing them as the key fundamentals of creative design. We share this passion wholeheartedly and believe that by following the path of your own curiosity, by being considerate and questioning, you too can create more thoughtful, more meaningful design.
We believe in good design, and feel it’s equally important to know the person and story behind every creation. Our aim is to provide a platform for sharing and supporting independent designers and makers who create with a responsible and thoughtful ethos.
